I get a few resume’s every week with cover-letter’s detailing the tough position a lot of young talented architects are in as a result of the long pro-longed recession and the damage its doing to the architecture profession. Its pretty astounding the talent that is out there considering it was so hard to find any talent a few years ago. I remember thinking it seemed if you were remotely interested in architecture, could print to and change the paper in a large format printer you were “hired” in the heady days of loose financing.
Since I can’t afford to hire anyone myself I thought I would post some opportunities that would help those out of work stay relevant while on the search for a new career opportunity. I came across this video promo for Architecture for Humanity. I signed up today to donate my services remotely. Hell, I have weeks and days where I’m crazy and then I have days where I am staring at the wall so I figured it would be a great way to meet new people in the profession and do some meaningful work on some meaningful projects.
Architecture for Humanity also has some onsite opportunities that require longer 6 month commitments. I think architecture for humanity could provide new project experience and bridge the gap in the experience between paying gigs on your resume. Check it out when you get a chance.
